Hongkong Disneyland with A Baby (Part 1/3) - 3D2N at Disney's Hollywood Hotel

There's no reason to travel. We travel because we want to experience something different. So off we went to Hongkong when Singapore Airlines launched their Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes flight deals. (Will blog more about the flights in my subsequent posts)

Bringing a baby always requires some kind of planning. And since we wanted to make sure our weekend trip to Disneyland is effortless as much as possible, we had this amazing plan! And as a sweet treat, I will be sharing our experience and tips in a 3 part post!

Hongkong Disneyland with A Baby (Part 2/3) - Breakfast at Disney's Enchanted Garden Restaurant
Hongkong Disneyland with A Baby (Part 3/3) - Full Day In Disneyland!

First up, let me share all we have about Disney's Hollywood Hotel.

Why do we stay there?
  • Super Baby-friendly hotel
  • Close Proximity to Disneyland
  • Free shuttle bus to Hongkong Disneyland and Disneyland Resort MTR station from the hotels
  • Affordable Costs - We managed to get 2 nights stay at the Disney hotel for just SGD$537 from trip.com (without breakfast) for 3 adults and 1 baby.
And simply said, we just wanted to complete our Disneyland experience with a stay at Disney hotel!

Our Standard Twin Room

The beauty of family friendly resorts is that the standard rooms will come with 2 queen sized beds (with a maximum occupancy of 4 pax). The room is basically a Hollywood designed hotel with subtle elements of Mickey and Minnie around the room.

Our home for 2 nights.

During the check in, the staff were very quick to offer us baby-friendly amenities so as to make our stay with BabyOOPS a pleasant one. Here are some notable ones...

1) Baby cot

Irregardless whether or not your baby sleeps in the cot or not, the cot is still absolutely helpful when you have a super mobile and curious baby in the room. Placing him in the cot helps to give us a peace of mind that he is safe when we are packing/unpacking our stuff. At least we don't have to worry about him walking into toilets, pulling wires or pressing on the buttons of the telephone!

2) Bed Guard

For babies who sleep on the bed and not in the cot, this bed guard is definitely going to give parents some peace of mind. At least something to ensure the sleepy baby doesn't roll down onto the floor in the middle of the night. But for a super active and wide awake baby, it is still important to exercise supervision to prevent potential accidents.

3) GAIA Natural shower amenities for the baby

Yes, a bottle of baby shampoo, baby moisturizer and a bath and body wash each, just for the baby. And it's not from any random unknown brand so I had no qualms about using them during the visit.

To match the Easter season in Disneyland, we had a Easter designed shower amenities kit.

4) Bath tub

Honestly, in my baby travels packing list, a bath tub is considered unnecessary because of its bulkiness. But its definitely a good to have during travels. Afterall, the baby loves his daily "onsen" moments, whereby he can engage in some water play. We were really thankful for this thoughtful amenity, especially when we saw the joy he had from soaking in his mini bath tub after a full day out at the park.

Say Cheese!

One last note, these baby friendly amenities are totally Free Of Charge! Lol... We really wished we had known these earlier. That could really cut down on some unnecessary load in our luggage.

The iconic piano pool of Hollywood Hotel was closed during the time we were there due to the cold weather. But for hotel guests who are keen to take a dip, we are told to go to the indoor pool at Hong Kong Disneyland hotel.

How we get to Disney's Hollywood Hotel from Hongkong Airport?

After considering all options, we concluded that the best way (with a baby) would be to take a taxi. One thing to note is that although Disneyland is located in Lantau island, you can actually just queue for the green colour taxi that goes to New Territories. The meter fare is approximately HKD$140-$160 (~SGD$26) and there is a slight surcharge of HKD$6 (~SGD$1) per luggage / stroller. You can sit up to 4 pax in one taxi.

We attempted to queue for the blue colour taxi (the taxi that goes around Lantau) and waited for 20 minutes but not a single blue taxi came. But there were loads of green taxi.

Disney's Free Shuttle Bus Services

During off peak timings, the bus frequency to and fro Disneyland Park is about 15-20 minutes. It is generally okay except that the bus can be packed in the mornings. This is because the bus would pick up passengers at Disneyland Hotel and Explorer's Lodge before coming to Hollywood Hotel.

But during peak hours (9.30am - 2 hours after night parade), there would be direct bus from Hollywood hotel to Disneyland at a 10-15 minutes bus frequency. Simply said, you will definitely have a space on the bus after 9.30am.

From the bus interchange near Disneyland, follow the signs that brings you to "Hotel Shuttles". The interchange is big and filled with tour buses, public buses and privates buses. So look out for the sign below to head back to Hollywood Hotel.

What to do around Disneyland Hotel?

Inside Disneyland hotels, there's nothing much except Disney infiltrated restaurants that are heavily overpriced and the only shops are souvenir shops which are packed with merchandises. There is a mini arcade that allows young children to play simple arcade games for free. But that's about it.

Therefore, for us, we decided to head out to Tung Chung, a shopping area which is relatively near to Disneyland. At that area, there are shopping malls like CityGate Outlet and Fu Tung Plaza and local eateries for some local food and to get some non-Disney related shopping done. If there's more time, Tung Chung is also where you can board the Ngong Ping 360 cable car to visit the Big Buddha located at Lantau Island.

For us, we took the shuttle bus to Disneyland Resort MTR Station. From there, we were also super excited about boarding the Mickey themed train to head to Sunny Bay station, before transiting another station to Tung Chung MTR.

The trains were all empty because it was night time!

That's pretty much what we have for our stay at Disneyland Hotel. Do share with us if you have similar great experiences with the hotel. Kindly stay tuned to Part 2 and Part 3 of our Disneyland adventure.
