Earlier in January, we spotted this interesting online giveaway by Starwood Preferred Groups which required us to submit a flatlay photo of 5 items which we would want to bring along for our next vacation and the reason why. There is a selected destination every month. Bangkok was the destination of January. No minimum purchase required too!
So we took out all our gears and started experimenting with flatlays.
This is our final selected pic for submission to the contest! Definitely proud of the final outcome.
We started keeping a lookout at the site everyday since February. It was to our deepest regrets when we realised we were not the winner (or did we really not win it?). Afterall, we had did our best and to the best of our ability.
Shocked.
Firstly, It is shocking to see how personal facebook accounts of staffs are used by Starwood Hotel Groups to notify the results. Secondly, damn it! We won but we didn't know we won!!! We read through the terms and conditions more carefully. Because if the mistake is from our part, we have to take responsibility for missing out on our facebook un-notified messages.

So what was the Prize for January?
A 3 days 2 nights stay for 2 to Bangkok at Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers.
Since we are heading to Bangkok very soon for our upcoming holidays, we decided to try this out. During our previous vacations to Bangkok, we have not stayed at Sheraton Hotel before so we thought it would be nice to check out the hospitality services of the hotel. This is especially when it is one of the top 100 hotels in Bangkok by tripadvisor. Afterall, seeing is believing.So we took out all our gears and started experimenting with flatlays.
Oh my, through this experience, we realised it is really so difficult to take a very good flatlay photo. Besides positioning, we also have to consider so many other factors!!! This whole process took us 4 hours!

However, while randomly running through Mr OOPS's facebook today, we realised some UNREAD MESSAGE REQUESTS (with no notifications pop up). It was to our horror when we saw that we had actually won the SPG Contest but because it was informed to us via Facebook Message from an individual who had no connection to us, we did not receive any notification at all.

SELECTION OF WINNER:
One winner will be selected from among all eligible entries every month during the Contest Entry Period. Winner selection is weighted as follows: 20% photo quality, 50% photo creativity, 30% persuasiveness of description. Winner selection will be conducted by an independent judging organization ("judges") whose decisions are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest. Winner will be notified by e-mail and/or mail on or about two weeks after the end of each month during the Contest Entry Period. If said e-mail and/or mail is returned as undeliverable, or if an entrant is otherwise found to be ineligible, or if the selected winner cannot accept or receive the prize for any reason, the potential prize winner will forfeit the prize and an alternate winner will be selected. In the event the potential prize winner cannot accept any portion of the prize, the Sponsor, in agreement with the selected winner, may award portions of the prize to the selected winner, and the unawarded portion(s) of the prize will be forfeited in its entirety by the selected winner. If Sponsor and the potential prize winner cannot agree on the portion of the prize to be awarded, the selected winner will forfeit the entire prize and an alternate winner will be selected. The Sponsor reserves the right to modify the notification procedures in connection with the selection of an alternate winner, if any. Winner and his or her travel companion are solely responsible for obtaining the proper travel documentation (e.g., valid photo ID) prior to travel. We checked his email and even spam mail but we found no signs of any email to notify us. We have responded to the facebook message of that staff who had contacted us to see how it goes. No high hopes though.
Missing out on this 3 day 2 night stay at Sheraton Hotel is probably a regret on our side. But the lesson learnt would be to check out that Message Request tab on facebook more regularly. Who knows, something or someone important might be messaging you.
